The well is planned to be drilled to a depth of 3,803m measured depth below rotary table (MDRT), to assess the gas potential in the southern extension of the Waitsia field. The program is projected for completion in seven weeks.
The Waitsia field comprises primary targets in the deep conventional formations in the Kingia and High Cliff Sandstones.
Based on the analysis of samples from drilling, the Waitsia-2 will undergo a flow test and will be completed as a production well for potential future field development.
Located on agricultural land approximately 16.5km east-southeast of Dongara and 5.6km south-southwest of Waitsia-1, the Waitsia-2 well is last of a three well drilling program planned in the Perth Basin this year.
The Waitsia gas field is estimated to host around 290 billion cubic feet of 2C contingent resources in the Kingia/High Cliff Sandstone formations.
AWE, through its subsidiaries, owns a 50% stake in the Permits L1/L2, while Origin Energy Resources holds the remainder.
