The sale is part of Vattenfall’s strategy to focus on sustainable energy production with Denmark as its core market.

Vattenfall CFO and deputy CEO Ingrid Bonde said: "With the divestment in Denmark, Vattenfall has completed an important step in its transition from fossil fuels into renewable energies."

Subject to regulatory approvals, the transaction is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

The latest deal comes after Vattenfall sold two of its coal-fired power plants, Amager power station and Fyn Power Station, in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Located close to Aalborg in northern Jutland, the Nordjylland plant has electricity generation capacity of 660MWe and heat capacity of 464MWth.

The facility features two separate plants, Unit 2 and Unit 3. The Unit 1 had been scrapped.

Vattenfall has so far installed 262 wind turbines in 37 wind farms in Denmark, and is one of the largest owners and producers of onshore wind power in the country. The company has operations in Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland and the UK.
