Located on the Satluj River in the Bilaspur District, the project consists of four turbines, each with a capacity of 20MMW, to generate approximately 3,054GWh of electricity annually.

With the commissioning of the fourth turbine, the project’s total installed capacity has reached 800MW, and that of the company is 44,798MW, reported Press Trust of India.

Due to various environmental and geological issues faced during construction phase, the project faced cost overrun of about 20% to that of the approved investment of Rs45.27bn ($705m).

Power generated from the project will be fed into the national grid through the 400kV D/C line, and will supplied to the states of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh.

The host state, Himachal Pradesh will also receive 15% of the power free of cost and a further 12% at bus-bar rate.
