The Mahabad, Kordestan and Lorest facilities are located along the West Ethylene Pipeline in West Azerbaijan, Kordestan and Lorestan provinces.

The projects are expected to increase Iran’s light and heavy polyethylene production by around 900,000 tons.

During the fiscal, the government will commission urea and ammonia units of a one million ton petrochemical plant in southern Fars Province.

Press TV cited National Petrochemical official Maryam Shahedaei as saying earlier that around 60 petrochemical projects are under construction with a projected investment of $30bn.

With these projects online, Iran will double its petrochemical production capacity to 120 million tons from the current 60 million tons.

"The necessary feedstock for these petrochemical plants will be supplied by various phases of South Pars gas field and there will be no problem in this regard," Shahedaei added.

Iran Petroleum Minister Bijan Zangeneh recently said that the country plans to modernize its oil, gas and petrochemical industries with an investment of $180bn by 2022.
