Vattenfall has unveiled plans to extend its existing Thanet offshore wind farm with the addition of 34 turbines.
The Thanet wind farm currently has a capacity of 300 MW and comprises 100 Vestas V90 wind turbines installed 12 km off the coast of Kent, eastern England.
Vattenfall says that it will hold a series of information days, commencing in January 2017, to consult with interested parties about its plans to extend the scheme. It says that the Thanet extension would be a valuable addition to its Kent cluster of offshore wind farms, comprising Kentish Flats, Kentish Flats Extension, and Thanet.
The Swedish firm is aiming to be carbon neutral by 2050, and plans to treble its wind capacity to 7 GW by 2025. It has already requested an opinion from government advisors about the scope of the environmental impact assessment needed for the extension project.
