American Superconductor Corp and GE Energy have been awarded a contract to provide voltage control equipment for the Hawi Wind Farm, located near Upolo Point on the Island of Hawaii.

Hawi Renewable Development (HRD) will be supplied with two superconducting D-VAR systems from American Superconductor and ancillary equipment from GE to meet the steady-state and dynamic voltage standards for interconnection of the project.

The 10.56 MW wind farm is scheduled to be completed in November and will use 16 Vestas V47 turbines.
