E.ON has started the construction of a 278 MW wind farm in Illinois, USA, further boosting its position in the US wind energy market.
The $500 million Radford’s Run wind farm will be the second largest wind farm in Illinois and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. Vestas will supply the project’s 139 turbines.
E.ON said in an official statement that it is strongly committed to the US renewable energy market, where it has recently concluded a number of key power purchase agreements and third party asset management deals. Healthcare Johnson & Johnson has agreed to buy half the output from E.ON’s 200 MW Colbeck’s Corner wind farm in Texas for 12 years. Digital Reality, a leading global provider of data center, colocation and interconnection solutions, also signed a long term clean energy agreement for using 400 000 MWh of the power produced by Colbeck’s Corner annually.
E.ON has also announced a deal with Lincoln Clean Energy to provide asset management and balance of plant services for the Amazon Wind Farm Texas near Snyder, Texas. The 253 MW facility will sell 90 per cent of the power generated to Amazon under a long-term contract.
