The company was selected as part of the fourth round of the renewable independent power producer procurement (REIPPP) program.
If a deal is finalized, the Italian company will build a 140MW wind project in Roggeveld and a 4.7MW small-hydro project in Kruisvallei, Free State province.
The wind and mini-hydro projects will be designed to produce 590GWh and 36GWh annually.
Building Energy managing director Africa Matteo Brambilla said: "Winning this bid is particularly important to Building Energy because it makes us the first IPP to deliver projects across four different technologies, showing our expertise and ability to deliver great results but also rewarding our efforts and commitment in this country, which can offer a lot to the renewable energies market."
In the first and third round of REIPPP, the company was selected to build a solar farm in Kathu and a biomass facility in Mkuze.
In South Africa, Building Energy operates a 81MWp photovoltaic project in Kathu and a 16.5MWe biomass plant in Mkuze, the first and largest biomass facility in Africa.
The company has a portfolio of renewable plants in operation, construction and development, with a total pipeline in excess of 2,200MW across the world.
