As per the deal, LanzaTech’s Freedom Pines facility in Soperton will use a Concord Blue Reformer to convert waste biomass into syngas, which will then be converted into useful biofuels and chemicals using LanzaTech’s proprietary gas fermentation process.
The Freedom Pines facility will test the integrated technologies that will serve as a key step towards commercialization of those technologies for various projects that the companies have under contract and in development.
Concord Blue’s closed-loop, non-incineration process recycles waste including landfill waste and sewage sludge into energy, while LanzaTechs’ technology produces fuels and chemicals by capturing and reusing a variety of gas streams including syngas from gasified biomass, municipal solid waste and waste gases from industrial processes.
Concord Blue chairman and CEO Charlie Thannhaeuser the partnership and demonstration facility will help expedite development of large scale projects including Four Forests Restoration Initiative (4FRI) that they have been awarded.
"This represents a critical step towards achieving our company’s objective to produce drop-in fuels from waste resources and bolster foreign oil independence by producing sustainable non fossil-based fuels," added Thannhaeuser.
