The Carbon Capture Test Facility (CCTF) is being constructed in collaboration with SaskPower, as part of an agreement signed in March 2012.

Comprising Hitachi’s CO2 capture solvent (H3-1) and main equipment, the facility will be capable of capturing 120t of CO2 per day from the flue gas emitted from 298MW Shand Power Station, using a chemical scrubbing method with an amine based absorbent.

Other Hitachi Group companies’ Babcock-Hitachi K.K. and Hitachi Power Systems Canada will serve as in charge of production and supply.

The construction work is anticipated to complete during the fall of 2014, while the CCTF will start up by the end of the same year.

Canada is currently promoting the development of carbon capture & storage (CCS) technology, and the implementation of demonstration projects as part of its national energy management strategy.
