The military government of Pakistan is considering giving permission to IPPs to privately export power abroad, including India.

WAPDA will allow IPPs to export power surplus to WAPDA’s needs. This policy initiative is being considered to avoid power wastage. It is thought that about 1000 MWe of capacity is wasted during peak periods. WAPDA is required to pay for 60 per cent of the IPP’s generation capacity currently on line.
