The US Secretary of Energy, Bill Richardson, announced that the Argonne National Laboratory had made a breakthrough that would enable diesel engines to operate cleanly and more efficiently.
The new technique controls fuel and oxygen levels in diesel engines, and results in reduced particulate levels and decreased NOx emissions simultaneously. The breakthrough technology also increases engine power.
Argonne found that changing oxygen levels and engine operating conditions improves the combustion process, thereby lowering emissions. NOx and particulate emissions were significantly reduced.
