Under the $797.7m engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) contract, BHEL will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, construct, erect, test and commission the 4x270MW power plant.
Scheduled to be commissioned in 24 months on fast track basis, the power plant will be built at Manuguru in Khammam district of Telangana.
BHEL will utilise its in-house developed fuel flexible boiler in the proposed power plants in order to overcome the current uncertainty of coal supply.
Capable of firing the entire range of coal, the boiler will provide security against variation in design coal and the actual availabe coal during operation, thus enabling operational flexibility for uninterrupted generation.
BHEL will manufacture the project’s key equipment at its Trichy, Hyderabad, Haridwar, Bhopal, Ranipet, Bangalore and Jhansi plants.
The company’s Power Sector – Western Region will carry out civil works and erection/commissioning of the equipment, as part of the contract.
The recent contract is in line with TSGENCO’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BHEL, according to which the latter will be responsible for constructing new thermal power plants with a total generation capacity of 6,000MW within three years.
The Indian power manufacturer has commissioned 84% of coal-based power facilities in Andhra Pradesh, which was split into two states; Andhra Pradesh and Telengana in 2014.
