Construction has started on a project to combine the generation of electricity from landfill gas with solar power generation. The project is being developed by DTE Biomass Energy, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District.
The project involves capturing methane generated in the waste landfill site, and burning it to generate electricity. The project will incorporate a solar component to generate power when sunlight is available. Project capacity is 25 kWe.
