Located in Dangjin City, about 70km southwest of Seoul in South Chungcheong Province, the under-construction plant will be fuelled with a mix comprising 80% palm kernel shells and 20% coal.

Metso will be responsible delivering a DNA automation system and for the plant, which is likely to be operational in 2015.

The contract will also see Metso providing a plant performance application and systems for thermal stress-monitoring and vibration-monitoring – all integrated into the control system.

Metso Energy & Process Systems, Automation director Matti Miinalainen said that the latest order marks the company’s foray into the Korean energy market.

"The importance of this reference cannot be emphasized enough. Upon the successful delivery of this project, Metso will be recognized among the Korean EPC contractors as a potential supplier for power plant automation systems," Miinalainen added.
