Enerfin, of Quebec, Canada, will manufacture and deliver the coolers over the next seven years.
‘This work will help ensure that Grand Coulee dam remains a reliable source for the generation of hydroelectric power in the Pacific Northwest,’ said USBR Commissioner Bob Johnson.
The coolers are designed to remove heat from the air circulated inside the generators. They will be installed on the 18 125MW generators in Grand Coulee’s right and left power plants.
Grand Coulee dam was completed in 1942 and serves as a multipurpose facility providing water for irrigation, recreation, fish and wildlife, hydroelectric power production, and flood control.
