Compelte operations are planned later this year.

The production follows the completion of steam blowing operations for the first of the two 150-MW turbines at the plant.

The second 150MW unit is scheduled to become operational by the end of July this year, Therma South previously said.

Therma South president and COO Benjamin A. Cariaso Jr said: "We are happy to announce that our customers should be able to start receiving power from Therma South by April on a scaled basis as we continue our tests.

"The timing could not have been better as the coming summer months are expected to affect the power output of Mindanao’s hydro power plants. Therma South will be able to assist our customers to cope with the demand for power."

The power generated at the plant will be supplied to over 20 distribution utilities and electric cooperatives including the Davao Light and Power, Cagayan de Oro Electric Power and Cotabato Light franchise areas.

The plant will also cater to electric cooperatives in the cities of General Santos, Butuan, Tagum, Kidapawan, Mati, Koronadal, Surigao and Digos, among others.

During phase II, another 150MW from the remaining 345MW of the project will become operational by the first quarter of 2016.
