SEPD project manager David Kiely said the projects will improve health of the local electricity network offering the customers in Fleet and Crookham the highest levels of service.

Under the first £3m project, the company engineers are currently installing new underground cables between the Coxmoor Wood and Hitches Lane substations, to help ensure the power supplies remain more robust and less susceptible to cuts.

Carried out by Durkin & Sons in staggered phases along Hitches Lane, Pilcot Road, and a section along Crondall Road from the Pilot Road junction down to the Basingstoke Canal, the project is anticipated to complete by mid-December 2013.

The company will be remove and replace old equipment at the Hitches Lane substation with the most up-to-date versions over the next 18 months.

Kiely said, ”This project represents a £2.5m investment from us and the new equipment will help to minimise the possibility of power cuts and ensure that we can connect all the new homes and businesses which are currently being built in the area.”

Scheduled to commence later this month, the third £500,000 project will include modernization of the Coxmoor Wood substation, covering upgrade of the circuit-breakers with the most-up-to-date versions available.
