Reuters quoted SunEdison energy storage deployment vice-president Tom Leyden as saying that the acquisition will enable SunEdison to initiate a storage plan across the country.

Leyden, who previously served as CEO of Solar Grid Storage, said: "My mandate now at SunEdison is storage deployment, and that means nationwide.

"Our focus has been solar plus storage, but the bigger picture for the company is that we’re going to be looking at renewables plus storage — and even storage only when it makes sense."

Solar Grid Storage develops battery energy storage systems that are installed alongside PV systems. The system eliminates the need for PV developers to purchase a solar inverter.

SunEdison is planning to complete solar and wind projects, with capacity 2,100MW to 2,300MW, this year.
