The 50 / 50 joint venture of Russia’s Alrosa and Botswana Diamonds intends to spend $1m on exploration this year.
Alrosa geologists, mineralogists and geophysicists and Botswana Diamonds team will carry out follow-up exploration on blocks PL 206, 207 and 210.
Comprehensive exploration program conducted last year highlighted specific areas on the above blocks.
The next stage of work will include soil sampling, electromagnetic and ground magnetic surveys.
Botswana Diamonds chairman John Teeling said: "As you would expect from the world’s biggest and most successful diamond company, Alrosa are conducting a professional and exciting exploration programme on our Botswana acreage.
"Using the comprehensive databases supplied by Botswana Diamonds, their own proprietary technology and the results of the first exploration programme, Alrosa focuses their efforts on priority ground."
The partners intend to identify major new kimberlites, and collect detailed information of the priority targets on the project.
