The second phase of the development is expected to add approximately 250 million barrels in recoverable resources to Peregrino field and involves new well head platform and drilling rig (Platform C).
Located 85km offshore Brazil in water depths of around 100m, the Statoil-operated Peregrino field is estimated to have 300 million to 600 million barrels of heavy oil of recoverable reserves.
Statoil Brazil country manager and senior vice president Pål Eitrheim: "Over its lifetime the project will generate several positive effects for Statoil’s supply chain and substantial tax incomes for Brazil.
"Peregrino Phase II will strengthen our position in the country and reinforce our long-term commitment for the development of Brazil.
Likely to commence production towards the end of the decade, the Peregrino Phase II is expected to boost the Peregrino field production by increasing the number of production wells from the Peregrino Southwest area.
The Phase II development will comprise drilling of 15 oil producers and 6 water injectors, from one new drilling centre, WHP-C, which will be located in 120m water depth.
