Under the contract, ABB will also be responsible for the provision of engineering, manufacturing, supply and field services for all the steam turbines and generators, which also include all direct control and auxiliary systems.

Scheduled to commence commercial operation in 2017, the new 2,650MW power plant will be situated on the Saudi Arabia’s western Red Sea coast.

Alstom received the latest contract five months after it was selected to supply 5x620MW steam turbine, generators, supercritical boilers in addition to electrostatic precipitators and flue gas desulphurisation systems for the Kingdom’s Yanbu 3 plant.

Alstom has also delivered equipment for the Kingdom’s biggest facility, the 5,600MW Shoaiba thermal power plant.
