Comprising strategic, tactical planning and optimisation tools, Maptek Evolution incorporates genetic algorithms, which are suitable for multi-objective problems such as scheduling, and runs on a cloud-based server.

Maptek mine scheduling manager Steve Craig said: "Processing schedules within a single solution and leveraging the cloud is ten times faster than traditional methods.

"Many iterations are run to analyze the most relevant solution for a particular set of data inputs and operating conditions. Planning teams can concentrate on developing the scenarios that add value."

Evolution’s cut-off grade optimization brings together complex geo-metallurgical environment, balancing mining, milling and refining capacity constraints.

The tool generates a production schedule as well as optimizes the haulage fleet and the shape of waste landforms thereby optimizing allocation of haul routes with calculated cycle times, productivity and fuel burns.

Craig said: "Holistic scheduling ensures optimised haulage routes and grade/tonnage consistency throughout the mine life."

Use of Evolution with Maptek Vulcan mine planning software is said to offer required tools.

Maptek acquired the open pit scheduler from Orelogy last year.
