The firms will provide services and equipment to redevelop the Schiehallion and Loyal fields to the west of Shetland.

The project features two main elements which include a new floating production, storage and offloading vessel and a major upgrade of the subsea infrastructure that will lie on the seabed.

OneSubsea has secured the latest contract, worth £65m, to manufacture subsea trees in Leeds.

The contract follows awards made during last year to companies based in Aberdeen, Fife, the Wirral, Newcastle, Leicester, Bristol, Shetland and other UK locations.

The Schiehallion and Loyal fields have produced about 400 million barrels of oil since production started in 1998 and an estimated 450 million barrels of resource is still available.

In July 2011, BP and its partners revealed plans to invest £3bn to redevelop both fields in a project known as Quad 204.

The money will go into new facilities to extend production over the next two decades and possibly beyond.

BP regional president for the North Sea Trevor Garlick said the UK-based subsea engineering industry is fully engaged in developing highly-advanced equipment that will ensure in maximising recovery from the field until 2035 and beyond.

"It is great to see more than 30 companies from all parts of the UK working together to contribute towards this important offshore project," Garlick said.

The new facilities are expected to start production in 2016.
