Pending approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission, the contract calls for designing, engineering and constructing the park’s turbine foundations, access roads, an operations and maintenance building; erecting 62 wind turbines; and building the infrastructure to connect turbines to the electrical grid.

Barton Malow will begin construction on the $255m project in later 2013 and commission by 2014. Construction work on the project will create 150 jobs and is estimated to generate direct and indirect output of worth $160.2m in Michigan.

The project will help Consumers Energy to meet Michigan’s renewable energy standard, which requires electric providers in the state to achieve a retail supply portfolio that includes at least 10% renewable energy by 2015.

Consumers Energy vice president of major projects and construction Jim Pomaranski said that selecting a Michigan company will not only help generate renewable energy for its customers but also the state for creating local jobs.

"The Pure Michigan Business Connect initiative is providing quality products and services at competitive prices. In turn, that spending is funding real projects, creating real jobs and making a real difference for Michigan," added Pomaranski.
