The expansion project calls for the construction of a 5MW solar facility adjacent to the existing project. The facility will feature 27,450 panels and will generate enough electricity to power about 1,000 homes.
North Carolina-based engineering and construction company SunEnergy1 was awarded a contract to construct the facility, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
Like the original plant, the new facility will sell its output to the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency under a 15-year power purchase agreement. The new project is Duke Energy Renewables’ 17th wholly-owned commercial solar farm.
SunEnergy1 CEO Kenny Habul said that together the White Post solar projects total 17 MW and will be the largest system in North Carolina.
