Located in Weld County near LaSalle, Colorado, the project will use a complete mix anaerobic digester system to produce up to 4,700MMBtu of biogas per day.
The anaerobic digestion system will initially convert organic feedstock and dairy cow manure into raw biogas, which is then processed into pipeline quality renewable natural gas.
Biogas deliveries are likely to start by the first quarter of 2014. The plant will supply renewable natural gas to Sacramento Municipal Utility District as part of a 20-year gas purchase agreement.
EDF Renewable Energy’s Landfill Gas Holding vice president Ralph Daley said that the acquisition will expand EDF’s renewable portfolio and the project will be the company’s first in the anaerobic digestion segment.
"Our experience gained though the management and operation of the Greentree and Imperial Landfill Biogas projects, as well as the European biogas experience of our parent company will provide the knowledge base to efficiently manage the construction and operations.
"We are fortunate to combine our skills with the anaerobic digestion experience of the Heartland Renewable Energy team," added Daley.
