According to Millstone spokesman Ken Holt, a system that measures the flow of water into a steam generator had its lost power and resulted in tripped down of 1,200MW unit, New Haven Register reported citing The Associated Press.

"We’ll determine the cause of the power loss and bring the unit back online," Holt added.

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) spokesman Neil Sheehan said, "The shutdown was uncomplicated, with all safety systems performing as they should."

According to Sheehan, the NRC inspectors will prosecute on the company’s efforts to diagnose the cause of the failure. The agency will also note the unplanned shutdown in its tracking of forced outages.

During the last summer, Unit 2 at the Millstone nuclear was shut down for nearly two weeks as the water, in nearby Long Island Sound, became too warm to cool equipment.

An ’emergency license amendment’ was issued by the NRC for allowing Millstone nuclear plant to use an average temperature of several readings.
