Ophir Energy operates Accra with a 20% participating interest, while other JV partners include Afex, Vitol, Rialto Energy and Tap Oil with 20%, 30%, 12.5% and 17.5% interest, respectively.

The JV partners started drilling Starfish-1 on 19 June 2013. Logging indicated water bearing sands at primary and secondary targets.

Tap Oil said there is possible evidence of residual oil in the primary and secondary targets, which may support an active petroleum system in the block.

The well was plugged and abandoned on 12 July 2013 as planned.

Ophir Energy, the operator, continues to work on the existing lead and prospect inventory.

The JV should decide on whether to enter into the first extension stage before the expiry date of the initial exploration period, which is 23 March 2014.

The Offshore Accra Contract Area covers an area of 2,000km2 and is located to the southeast of Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana, in water depths ranging from less than 50m to greater than 2,500m.
