Under the project worth $450m, the company will build a 102MW solar power plant at Nyngan and a 53MW plant at Broken Hill.

Construction work on Nyngan project would begin in January 2014 and complete by mid 2015, while work on the Broken Hill project will commence in July 2014 and is slated to be completed by November 2015.

The projects will secure funding of about $166.7m from ARENA and $64.9m from the NSW government.

First Solar (Australia) will be engaged in providing engineering, procurement and construction services for both the solar PV projects, which are expected to bring around 150 construction jobs at Broken Hill and around 300 at Nyngan.

Once completed, the projects will be able to generate about 360,000MW hour of electricity to power more than 50,000 homes in NSW.

Both the projects of AGL Energy, after entering into commercial operation, will be operated and maintained by First Solar for five years.
