The country has huge coal reservoirs of about 185 billion tons.

GHCL will begin the conversion work at Units 1 and 2 of 450MW at Jamshoro thermal power station in Sindh, Units 1 to 6 of 1,350MW at Muzaffargarh thermal power station in Punjab, and Units 1 to 4 of 640MW at Guddu thermal power station in Sindh.

The company will sign contracts with local and international consulting firms in the near future for the conversion process, The Nation reported citing APP.

Initially, the company will prepare feasibility report, conduct environmental studies and PC-1 to convert the three power stations to coal-fired plants.

GHCL would also install emission reduction technologies at the three power stations.
