Wa’ad Al Shammal phosphate complex is a fully integrated project that comprises mining and processing plants at Wa’ad Al Shammal Mineral Industrial City, along with construction of ammonia and phosphate and compound fertiliser facilities at Ras Al Khair.

Under the latest contract, OOK & IK will build the ammonia plant at Ras Al Khair.

The contract covers detailed engineering, procurement, and construction of the ammonia plant, which will have a production capacity of 1.1 million tons, with completion expected in late 2016.

Ma’aden president and CEO Khalid Al-Mudaifer said, "This project will greatly contribute to the economic and social development of the northern region of Saudi Arabia while creating significant value for Ma’aden shareholders."

The investment for the phosphate complex is estimated at SAR26bn ($6.93bn), of which nearly SAR21bn ($5.59bn) will be invested in the King Abdullah Project for the Development of Wa’ad Al Shammal.

This project will double Ma’aden’s phosphate production, while improving its access to key global markets.
