The 300MVA motor-generator was taken to the company’s workshop in Heidenheim, Germany, last year from the almost 1GW plant in the Black Forest. Refurbishment works included manufacturing a new stator, and at present the poles are being overhauled. The unit is to be re-commissioned early next year.

Voith said it has been contracted to rehabilitate the second of the plants four units and work is scheduled to start in 2009.

Wehr began operations in 1976 and each year produces more than 1000GWh of electricity during peak periods.
