In a statement, RusHydro said the major reasons for the growth in production were the launch of a fifth 640MW hydro-unit at Sayano-Shushenskaya in December 2011; a rigorous policy of water level optimization; a 5% increase in generation in the Center of Russia, primarily thanks to the Volga-Kama hydroelectric project; and a 12% increase in generation volumes by Far East Generation Company in 1Q 2012 vs 1Q 2011, the largest asset of the RAO ES of the East holding, due to growth in electricity consumption of transportation infrastructure.
RusHydro acquired JSC RAO Energy Systems of East, a holding company comprising generating assets in the Far East of Russia with a total electricity generation capacity of 8,986 MW, in October 2011. The acquisition bought the total installed capacity of RusHydro Group as at 1 April 2012 to 35,178MW.
