The company said that the value of the contract is worth Euro33M (US$49M). The contract is to be fulfilled by a consortium of three firms – Voith Siemens Hydro St Polten, Voith Siemens Hydro Turkey and Siemens Sanayi ve Ticaret.
Turkish national utility DSI originally built the dam and powerhouse at Uzuncayir on the Munzar river. The current plan has been to increase the installed capacity at the powerhouse without requiring costly modifications to the civil structures, Voith Siemens said.
Originally, the powerhouse was built to house three units each of 24MW capacity, and Voith Siemens designed three Francis units of 32MW each for the site plus the according electro-mechanical equipment.
Voith’s supply contract covers turbines, inlet valves, governors, drainage, mechanical auxiliaries, generators, the excitation and protection system, unit and plant automation, generator bus, medium and low voltage systems, power transformers and HV (155kV) switchgear.
The company added that in securing the contract it had achieved its fifth procurement success with Turkish IPPs within the last two years. The previous four plant projects were: Akkoy, Uluabat, Akocac and Carica.
