Under the contract, the company will provide the supply and installation services for 46 SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines, each with an output of 2.3MW. The turbines feature a rotor diameter of 108m on 115m towers each.
In addition, the agreement also includes five-year-service agreement.
Siemens Energy wind power CEO Felix Ferlemann stated that the company is keen to extend its support in furthering the wind energy sector of South Africa and it is also delighted to have been awarded for the first large project of Eskom.
"South Africa has outstanding conditions for the utilization of wind energy and has set up a remarkable renewable energy program with the Independent Power Producer Procurement Program," added Ferlemann.
Siemens has scheduled the turbine installation in the second half of 2013, with the commencement of operations expected during first half of 2014.
