According to the Bureau of Land Management, the company will undertake operations at the mine located in Mohave County for two to three years as per an approved operations plan.
This is the second uranium mine near the Grand Canyon that the company is keen to explore, after it announced its plans to open Canyon uranium mine in 2015.
Energy Fuels is opening the mines against the federal ban on any mining claims at the Grand Canyon region.
In 2012, US president Barack Obama enforced ban on uranium mining on 1m acres of land around the Grand Canyon to preserve the one of the world’s natural wonders.
Meanwhile, the company is likely to open its four to five uranium mines located north and south of the Grand Canyon in the upcoming years.
