The equipment includes nine generators of 660MW and the other nine of 800MW units capacity to reduce the blackouts.
NTPC Chairman ARP Choudhury told Bloomberg that the capacity addition will more than double to 3,150MW this year, and another 5,500MW to follow in the year ending March 2012.
NTPC plans to increase its capacity from the current 32,694MW to 75,000MW by 2017.
