Alstom is to supply the power island (KA24) for the fifth unit at Iberdrola’s Monterrey III combined-cycle power plant in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The deal is worth around €335 million, and also includes a long-term service agreement for the new unit and four additional units at the site
Unit 5 of the Monterrey III plant, which is due to be commissioned in 2016, will have an installed capacity of approximately 338 MW.
The power island will comprise one GT24 gas turbine, a steam turbine and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG). Alstom says it will use the company’s upgraded gas turbine technology, which ‘offers optimum reliability, operational flexibility, availability and performance to balance load production in the region.’
Alstom’s gas turbines have been in operation for more than ten years at units 1-4 of the Monterrey III power station. This experience, says Philippe Cochet, President of Alstom Thermal Power enables Alstom to provide "generation and maintenance solutions that ensure reliability and efficiency for Mexico’s industrial consumers for years to come".
The order represents Alstom’s 11th for a GT24 gas turbine in Mexico. The company has installed 11 GW of electricity-generating equipment in Mexico, with some 3000 MW relating to combined-cycle plants in the country.
