Alstom Grid is to develop and produce ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) power transmission systems in China after signing a cooperation agreement with China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co. (CET).
The agreement calls for the two companies to co-operate on 1100 kV and 800 kV converter transformer technology development and manufacture. It will form a key part of a research and development programme launched by State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) last year.
China is currently implementing 800 kV DC transmission systems and is now moving towards even higher voltages in a bid to improve the efficiency and capacity of its high voltage network.
Mr Cao Zhi’An, executive vice-president of SGCC said, “This year marks the starting point for SGCC to begin its large scale HVDC construction projects. SGCC has paid close attention to the cooperation between CET and Alstom in the development of UHVDC converter transformers, and will provide its full support.”
CET is a subsidiary of SGCC.
