The project includes construction of a carbon capture pilot plant, which will be capable of capturing up to 95% of carbon dioxide emissions.

The project will be aimed at pre-combustion carbon capture applications, involving CO2 removal by physical separation and will be developed in two phases.

Under the Phase I, £3.5m will be invested to provide he front end engineering design for the demonstration unit.

Costain will work with the University of Edinburgh and Imperial College, London during the Phase I, to help understand and optimise performance of the technology.

Under the Phase II, ETI will invest £20m for the construction of the pilot plant, along with demonstrating it and analyzing the results.
