The company will engineer, design, supply, install and commission a new 380/230kV substation in Wasit to facilitate power supplies in the eastern region of the country.

ABB will also construct the Roikbah 132kV substation in east Najran and a second 132kV substation in Buriadah, the capital city of the Al-Qassim province.

The company will upgrade substations in Riyadh and Hail, and undertake the expansion of the Jizan Central and South Khamis Imshate substations.

Under the turnkey orders, ABB will be responsible for civil works and auxiliary systems and supply key products including gas-insulated switchgear, transformers, protection equipment and substation automation.

ABB power systems division head Peter Leupp said these substations will further strengthen Saudi Arabia’s transmission and distribution grid to address growing electricity demand.

Saudi Electricity Company is the national power transmission and distribution operator of Saudi Arabia.
