Japan-based Mitsubishi is a supplier of FGD systems and BHEL will use the FGD system technology in its fossil fuel power plants.
FGD systems help clear sulphur dioxide (SO2) from the flue gas, which is generated when fuels like coal and oil are fired.
BHEL will engineer and manufacture the FGD systems at its Ranipet Unit in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu using Mitsubishi’s technology.
It is expected that with the growing awareness and concern regarding the environmental pollution, the Central Pollution Control
Board, Ministry of Environment and Forests, will soon impose strict control regulations towards SO2 emissions.
Central Electric Authority has already suggested power developers to install FGD systems to reduce pollution.
