The main objective behind drilling the Siphon-1 well is to target the northern flank of the Siphon, which is expected to contain a Toro reservoir similar to that found in Stanley-1 gas condensate discovery.

The Siphon well is expected to be drilled up to 3,787m deep and is expected to take 57 days to complete.

The Stanley-1 gas condensate discovery lies about 10 km to the south-west in PRL 4, operated by Horizon Oil which holds 50% interest along with Talisman, reports upstream online.com.

Talisman is operator of PPL 569 and owns a 50% stake in the licence along with New Guinea Energy.
