The well is targeting the Vani 3 prospect, which has a mean estimate of undiscovered oil in place of 115 million barrels.
According to the company, the drilling operations will take about 45-55 days with a target depth of approximately 3,500m.
Mukhiani 1 is the first of an anticipated four to six exploration wells to be drilled this year across Range Resources’ Georgian, Puntland, Texan and Trinidadian exploration assets.
The well is the first of two exploration wells to be drilled in Georgia in 2011, and a geochemical helium survey undertaken by the company confirmed the suitability of the first drill location with oil exploration and development prospectivity.
