These mobile substations will be located on the island of Sardinia and in Puglia, the south-eastern part of Italy.

The 145-170kV high-voltage substations can be used to replace fixed installations temporarily, provide interim connections as well as supplement renewable energies and augment normal power supplies.

The substations are mounted on skids and comprise products like the plug and switch system hybrid switchgear, protection and control systems and a range of high-voltage equipment including voltage transformers, surge arresters and cables.

ABB will design, engineer, supply, install and commission the substations which will enable utilities to carry out planned and unplanned maintenance work, respond rapidly to outages and restore power supplies quickly, the company said.
