According to the terms of a 30-year purchase agreement, Avista will buy about 40MW of energy or up to 100MW starting in 2012.

Palouse Wind will tie into Avista’s electric system through Avista’s Benewah/Shawnee transmission line.

The company said the Palouse wind farm will generate energy, which is sufficient to power 30,000 homes.

Avista vice president of energy resources Dick Storro said the Palouse Wind will help Avista meet its goal of providing reliable energy to their customers at a reasonable cost, while meeting renewable portfolio standards, now and in the future.

The power purchased from the wind farm qualifies under the Washington State’s Energy Independence Act and helps to meet Avista’s renewable portfolio standard requirements for 2016.
