The variable speed pumped storage power plant will be located on the river Bhagirathi in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

Alstom’s share of the contract is worth around EUR180m ($261.2m), and the company will supply four 250MW variable speed turbine & generator units and other equipment including main inlet valves and control and protection systems.

The power project is said to be India’s first pumped storage hydro power plant to use variable speed technology.
