The venture will complete a planned expansion next year which will allow it to ramp up production.

KATCO intends to increase its uranium output to 3,500 tons this year from 3,354 tons in 2010.

The company, which invested a total of $550m in the development activities, operates two mines Tortkuduk and Muyunkum, which utilize the in-situ leaching process to mine uranium.

The company launched the pilot production in 2001 at its mine in Muyunkum and began industrial production in 2004.

Areva holds 51% interest in KATCO while Kazakh state nuclear company Kazatomprom owns 49%.
