The revenues of OPEC were also much lower in 2009 than the $310 billion earned in the first four months of 2008 when oil prices were at their highest level.

The figures by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the US Department of Energy showed Saudi Arabia has netted about $36 billion in the first four months of 2009, around 26% of OPEC’s income.

Kuwait’s earnings were at $12 billion while Iran has earned around $13 billion.

Qatar has netted $6 billion while Iraq has earned about $9 billion.
